EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is an evidence based therapy designed to help people process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences.
During EMDR, a therapist guides you in briefly focusing on difficult memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, tapping, or alternating sounds. This process helps the brain reprocess stuck memories so they feel less overwhelming and more manageable.
EMDR does not require you to talk in detail about every aspect of a painful experience. Instead, it helps your brain naturally process what was previously unprocessed, reducing emotional intensity, intrusive thoughts, and physical distress connected to past events.
What makes Guiding Light for Tranquil Waters different from other therapy practices is our person-centered, trauma-informed approach grounded in evidence-based methods and tailored to each individual’s needs. As a clinician, I combine modalities like EMDR, IFS, DBT, ERP, Brainspotting, Somatic Therapy, and Mindfulness to meet people where they are, helping them build empowerment, resilience, and long-term change. My focus is on supporting people in reclaiming control from intrusive thoughts, unhelpful beliefs, and past adversity, not just managing symptoms. I work with clients collaboratively, with compassion and respect for their unique experiences, to help them access their inner strength and move toward meaningful goals—something many larger therapy companies struggle to provide with the same individualized depth and continuity of care.
